Von Trier’s Depression Threatens His Entire Career
The Danish director Lars von Trier’s career is threatened by a deep depression that makes him unable to work. As the Danish director told the Danish newspaper Politiken, he is completely blank.
“It’s very strange for me, because I’ve always had at least three projects in my head at one time. But right now I am completely blank.” – said von Trier.
Von Trier is known for movie like “Dogville”, starring Nicole Kidman, or “Dancer in the Dark”, which won the most important prize at the Cannes Film Festival from 2000. The Iceland’s famous singer Bjork starred in the latter film.
Lars Von Trier’s latest work was “The Boss of It All”, a comedy from 2006.
The director checked himself into a hospital from Copenhagen around Christmas for treating his depression. Von Trier was not sure whether he would be able to complete “Antichrist”, his next project, a horror movie that has been scheduled to be produced later this year.
“I assume that ‘Antichrist’ will be my next film. But right now I don’t know. After my downspin, I feel like a blank sheet of paper.”
