Hong Kong: Warner Brothers Will Offer Movies Online
The Warner Brothers film studio said that they would like to offer movie downloads online in Hong Kong, which is the key movie market where film piracy has plagued Hollywood. This will be available through the ViDeOnline Communications Ltd. web site.
ViDeOnline will offer through its web site newer movies, like “Happy Feet”, for example, as well as older ones from its library. Initially no less than 100 titles will be available, but the studio and ViDeOnline did not mention the price per download that they will ask for.
As the studios from Hollywood have been claiming that piracy costs them more than $6 billion a year in lost revenues, Warner Brothers’ decision could be a solution. China is the most important movie market where the studios are forever fighting against film piracy.
Hollywood’s strategy is also to get consumers more top quality copies of legal movies faster.
“This deal fits perfectly with our philosophy of providing consumers around the world with access to our world-class entertainment.” – said the president of Warner Bros. International Television, Jeffrey Schlesinger.
